We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back.

On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, charities, families, businesses, communities and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

It's a simple idea, really.

Thanksgiving is a day for giving thanks. This is followed by three days for getting good shopping deals: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Now, we have #GivingTuesday — a global day dedicated to giving back to the charities that mean the most to you!

Join us and be part of this global celebration of a new tradition of generosity. We’ve set a goal to raise $9,000 for our annual cultural trip so our students can visit prominent Native American Landmarks such as the Crazy Horse Memorial, the sites of the Wounded Knee Massacre and the Battle of Little Big Horn, Mato Tipila, more commonly known as Devils Tower, Bear Butte (Mato Paha) and several others.

But, to our students, this trip is more than just sightseeing. It’s the chance to visit the sacred lands of their ancestors — to walk where they once walked, to pray where they once prayed.

LaShawn, an eighth grade student who attended the trip last year, said the trip gave her a sense of connectedness to her culture.

“The Cultural Trip is the best trip I’ve ever been on,” she said. “I loved it so much!”

Empower your friends and family to join the movement by sharing your decision to give on social pages using the hashtag #GivingTuesdayStJo.

St. Joseph's Indian School couldn't carry on our mission of educating and helping Lakota children without you! Wopila tankamany thanks — for sharing your blessings, time and other resources to give HOPE to Native American children in need!
