Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Alyssa.

Alyssa was born on January 19, 2002 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Alyssa’s favorite school memory was the 7th Grade Cultural Trip. Her favorite home memory was when she and her friends were scared by one of her houseparents.

After graduating from high school, Alyssa plans on attending college to become an accountant.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Anthony.

Anthony was born on September 28, 2001 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

Anthony’s favorite memory of school at St. Joseph’s was his 7th Grade Cultural Trip.

Anthony’s future plans include going to high school and getting his diploma.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Devon.

Devon was born on March 12, 2002 in Rosebud, South Dakota. He is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

Devon’s favorite memories of school are the days before breaks because everyone is so excited! Another favorite memory is from 8th Grade, when he was struck by a parked car — while playing tag, Devon was running backwards and the car snuck up behind him.

After 8th grade, Devon plans to graduate from high school and eventually attend college.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Dominick.

Dominick was born on July 29, 2002 in Winner, South Dakota. He is a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Dominick’s favorite memory of school at St. Joseph’s was when he went on his 7th Grade Cultural Trip. His favorite Speyer Home memory is going on this year’s home trip.

Dominick plans on graduating from high school, and then would like to see where life takes him from there!


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Haesel.

Haesel was born on February 14, 2002 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

Haesel’s favorite memory of school was the 7th Grade Cultural Trip. Another favorite memory was when she and her friends all jumped in the fountain at the museum.

After finishing high school, Haesel’s dreams are to go to college and have a successful career.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Haille.

Haille was born on June 16, 2002 in Chamberlain, South Dakota. She is a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Haille’s favorite school memory is of the 7th Grade Cultural trip because she made a lot of memories with everyone there. Her favorite home memory was in 6th and 7th grade — every time the 8th graders went out to eat with their Family Service Counselor, the younger girls got water balloons ready to throw at them when they came back.

After graduating high school, Haille’s future dream is to become a vet because she likes animals!


Meet Our 2015 8th Grader - Harold.

Harold was born on May 29, 2002 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Harold’s favorite school memory is from an s 8th grade basketball game when he and two of his teammates acted like the ball was a hot potato and he accidentally hit an opposing player in the face with it. His favorite home memory is of his 7th grade home trip to Sioux Falls. They all had fun at SkyZone and the mall.

Harold’s future dreams and plans include attending Flandreau Indian School next year. After high school, he would like to attend college at the University of Kansas.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Iyung.

Iyung was born May 2, 2002 in Winner, South Dakota. She is a member of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.

Iyung’s favorite memory of school at St. Joseph’s is when one of her friends slipped down the hill when it was raining. Her favorite Stevens Home memory was when she and two of her friends had a marker war.

After high school, Iyung’s future plans are to move out of South Dakota and get a job.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Jason.

Jason was born on July 28, 2001 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Jason’s favorite school memory is making new friends and having fun learning new things. His favorite memory of home is telling jokes and playing basketball with friends.

Jason plans on attending and graduating from Chamberlain High School.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Jayda.

Jayda was born on July 18, 2002 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Jayda’s favorite memory while attending St. Joseph’s was going to her first dance in 7th grade. She will remember also when she and the other 7th graders bombed the 8th graders during a water balloon fight in the home!

After graduating from high school, Jayda would like to pursue a career as an animator.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Justina.

Justina was born October 30, 2001 in Mitchell, South Dakota. She is a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Justina’s favorite home memory is last year when she and two of her friends jumped in the water fountain by the museum.

Justina wants to graduate from high school and go to Kansas State University and from there she wants to travel the world. By the age of 30, she dreams of moving to Atlanta, Georgia and starting her own salon.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Maleke.

Maleke was born on August 13, 2001 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Maleke’s favorite memory of school at St. Joseph’s was when he and two of his friends were trying to do back flips off a tree. His favorite memory of his home was being at Fisher Field with his friends and being happy.

Maleke’s future dreams are to go to college, play basketball, and hopefully even play pro!


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Nick.

Nicholas was born on June 26, 2002 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

Nick’s favorite school memory while attending St. Joseph’s was of his 7th Grade Cultural Trip. His favorite home memory is of this year’s home trip with Rooney Home.

Nick’s future plans include finishing high school and going to college.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Ramez.

Ramez was born on September 24, 2000 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Ramez’s favorite memory of school was of his 8th grade football season. His favorite home memory is from 6th grade in the Fisher Home when houseparent Derek scared the boys while watching a horror movie.

Ramez plans to graduate from Chamberlain High School and pursue a college degree.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Richard.

Richard was born on November 15, 2000 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. He is a member of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe.

Richard’s favorite school memory is when, in an 8th grade basketball game, he snagged a monster rebound and went back up to score two points… for the opposing team.

Richard’s future plans and dreams include attending Chamberlain High School and serving in the military.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Sam.

Samuel was born in September 5, 2001 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Sam’s favorite memory of St. Joe’s School was going on the 7th Grade Cultural Trip. His favorite memory of the home is going to Thunder Road and beating his houseparent, Richard, at go-carts.

Sam plans on finishing high school and joining the military or National Guard.


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Taelonna.

Taelonna was born August 21, 2001 in Mitchell, South Dakota. She is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Taelonna doesn’t have just one favorite memory of St. Joe’s, but her favorite days were hanging out with her friends. She also will remember her 7th Grade Cultural Trip!

After graduating high school, Taelonna would like to go to college for business and then on to Aveda Institute for cosmetology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After college, she dreams of moving to a big city and working in a salon until she has enough money to travel the world!


Meet Our 2016 8th Grader - Terrance.

Terrance was born June 16, 2000 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. He is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Terrance’s favorite school memory is of an 8th grade basketball game — he got to play and made two 3-point shots in one game! Terrance enjoyed sharing funny stories with friends while hanging out in the home, and will remember that always.

After graduating high school, he would like to work with his dad on a ranch.
