This summer, St. Joseph’s Bookmobile gave away more than 6,830 new and used books to Native American children living on South Dakota Indian Reservations! The Native American families from these tiny, isolated communities are often more than 30 miles from the nearest library. For this reason, St. Joseph’s Bookmobile has been delivering books to reservation communities for over 30 years. The bookmobile stops in church or school parking lots, parks or lunch programs. This summer, we visited 29 communities and shared books with hundreds of children and families. At sites where summer school was in session, teachers were able to choose up to 10 books for their classroom. The bookmobile set up shop in 29 South Dakota communities, stopping at lunch programs, parks and churches. Here’s how you helped St. Joseph’s 2016 Bookmobile make a difference:
Pilamaya — thank you — for helping Native American children keep reading all summer long! With such great need for books in reservation communities, reading materials are always gratefully accepted. Send books today! Learn more about how you can help Lakota (Sioux) children! |
