Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Carolina.

Carolina was born July 23, 2003, in Mitchell, South Dakota. She is a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Her favorite school memory is when the 7th and 8th graders went to Camp Med, a career day for health careers. Her favorite memory was when they went on a day trip to Mitchell and spent time with the houseparents.

Carolina plans to be a part of St. Joseph’s High School Program and attend Chamberlain High School. She wants to be a photographer someday.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Shawnna.

Shawnna was born on January 17, 2003, in Pierre, South Dakota. She is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Shawnna’s favorite memory of school is when she and Sasha went to Central Offices and “pied” Amanda in the face with whipped cream! Her favorite home memory was when she was in the 6th grade and Lori and Lloyd took the home to Mitchell for a day trip.

Shawnna plans to attend Chamberlain High School. She wants to become a probation officer.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Pearl.

Pearl was born on December 14, 2001, in Pierre, South Dakota. She is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Pearl’s favorite memory of school is playing in the staff vs. 8th grade girls and boys basketball game. Her favorite home memory is when they went to Wild Water West home trip.

Pearl plans on attending the St. Joseph’s High School Program after 8th grade. Pearl would someday like to be a part of the FBI or become a vet.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Isaiah.

Isaiah was born on April 9, 2003, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Isaiah’s favorite memory of school is drinking coffee with Schoeny on the 7th Grade cultural trip and messing around during their time in the car. His favorite memory of Rooney Home was when they went to the WaTiki Water Park for a home trip and he and Trinity had fun messing around.

Right now, Isaiah is unsure where he wants to attend high school, but he does know that someday he would like to be a comedian!


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Leonard.

Leonard was born on January 14, 2003, in Pierre, South Dakota. He is a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Leonard’s favorite school memory is the 7th grade cultural trip—it was fun and educational at the same time. His favorite home memories are when he lived in Raphael home with Leonard and Aleece.

Leonard plans to attend Chamberlain High School next year. He wants to be a great role model when he grows up.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Preston.

Preston was born September 11, 2002, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Preston’s favorite school memory is from guidance class when his teacher, Bill, needed to call the office on the intercom system. All he had to do was pick up the phone and the secretaries would answer over the intercom, but Bill had his reading glasses on and was going through the phone directory, looking for a number to dial… even though there was no keypad on the phone! His favorite memory of Rooney Home was his 7th grade cultural trip.

Preston is unsure where he will be attending high school, but knows that he would like to serve in the Army when he grows up.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Wakinyan.

Wakinyan was born January 4, 2003, in Rapid City, South Dakota. He is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Wakinyan’s favorite school memory is his 7th grade cultural trip, especially when he had the opportunity to climb Black Elk Peak. His favorite memory of the home is his 6th grade Cyr Home trip with Odis and Theresa. They went to Rapid City and had fun at Flags and Wheels and the WaTiki waterpark.

After graduating from 8th grade, Wakinyan plans to attend high school and earn his diploma. When he grows up, he wants to be an animator.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Tayeden.

Tayeden was born March 10, 2003, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

His favorite school memory is the 7th grade cultural trip. He enjoyed all of the historical sites, as well as the camaraderie between staff and students. His favorite home memory was playing hide-and-seek in the Rooney Home.

Tayeden plans to attend Chamberlain High School. His long-term plans include attending college and exploring more options for his future.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Brennan.

Brennan was born December 12, 2002, in Pierre, South Dakota. He is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Brennan’s favorite memory of school is the 7th grade cultural trip. His favorite memory of the home is playing basketball with his houseparent William and crossing him up.

Brennan plans on attending Chamberlain High School after 8th grade graduation. He wants to graduate high school and see where life takes him.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Garret.

Garret was born on August 27, 2002, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe.

Garret’s favorite memory of school is the 7th grade cultural trip. His favorite memory of the home is in 7th grade living in Rooney and having fun ‘messing around with the fellas’.

After 8th grade graduation, Garret plans on attending Chamberlain High School. He wants to graduate high school and go to college where he will hopefully play basketball.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Victor.

Victor was born on March 16th, 2003, in Yankton, South Dakota. He is a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Victor’s favorite memories of school at St. Joseph’s is when his class had free time in the school gym or when they went outside for P.E. His favorite Speyer Home memory is when the home was getting ready for breaks, because there were only a few people left on the last days.

Victor plans on going to high school, and then on to college, and playing basketball for both. He eventually wants to play for the NBA or in the D-League.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Trinity.

Trinity was born August 16, 2002, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Trinity’s favorite memory of school is the 7th grade cultural trip. His favorite memory of the home is when he and Jarrett were on their way back from Family Dollar and they tried to hide from Odis in a tree. Then, Odis caught them and told them to get down. Trinity made it down safely, but Jarret’s foot got caught on a branch and he landed on his stomach!

Trinity plans on being a Chamberlain Cub and then go to college at the University of Kentucky. When he grows up, he wants to be a professional basketball player.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Lillian.

Lillian was born October 16, 2002, in Yankton, South Dakota. She is a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Lillian’s favorite school memory is when she played in the staff vs. 8th grade basketball game. Her favorite home memory was when they went to Wild Water West for a home trip.

Lilly plans on going into the high school program and attending CHS after 8th grade graduation. When she grows up, Lilly wants to be in the WNBA or become a vet.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Lynaiah.

Lynaiah was born July 25, 2003, in Chamberlain, South Dakota. She is a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Lynaiah’s favorite memory of school was when Espy and LaDaiya were dancing in the library. Her favorite home memory was when Espy dumped a spoonful of snicker salad on her head.

After 8th grade graduation, Lynaiah plans to graduate high school and would someday like to become a vet.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - LaDaiya.

LaDaiya was born January 18, 2003, in Rosebud, South Dakota. She is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

LaDaiya’s favorite memory of school is going to Julie’s office and eating up all of her snacks. Her favorite memory of the home was when she and Rachel were messing around with water and Rachel got LaDaiya with the sprayer.

After 8th grade graduation, LaDaiya plans to graduate high school and get her diploma. When she grows up, LaDaiya would like to be a pediatrician.


Meet Our 2017 8th Grader - Trudy.

Trudy was born May 17, 2003, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Trudy’s favorite school memory is the outdoor slope activity they did for math class. Her favorite memory in the home is sledding in winter.

After 8th grade graduation, Trudy plans on being in the St. Joseph’s High School Program. Trudy wants to be a firefighter when she is older.
