Five of St. Joseph’s high school students recently took second place in the annual knowledge bowl at the Lakota Nation Invitational in Rapid City, South Dakota.

“The girls did a really great job,” said Pam, St. Joseph’s transition specialist and chaperone for the trip. “They prepared for several weeks, studying questions on a variety of subjects, including architecture, children’s stories and mythology.”

In addition to team competition, students also had the opportunity to test individually. Andrea got 2nd place in physics and Danisha took 2nd place in geometry.

The Lakota Nation Invitational began in 1977 as an eight-team boys’ basketball tournament at Pine Ridge High School. In the years that followed, the event became increasingly popular and has grown to include team and individual competitions including basketball, wrestling, Lakota language contests and traditional Lakota hand games.
