The HUSSC is a voluntary initiative established in 2004 to recognize schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that have created a healthier school environment through the promotion of nutrition and physical activity. Schools have the opportunity to become certified as Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Gold with distinction based on meeting certain criteria.
St. Joseph’s is the first school in South Dakota to meet the criteria for Silver under the new guidelines and the first Native American school in South Dakota to receive the award. They received a certificate, banner, and a check for $1,000. |
